Description

Cederblad 214 / NGC 7822, an HII region that is part of a larger star-forming complex called Sharpless 171, about a kiloparsec away. Normally I prefer more realistic colors, but there's a lot of structure here that is easier to see if one pushes the palette. This image uses HOO for the gas, with red and green heavily biased against in StarTools and the 60+40/30+30+40/100 SHO color mixing, which I pushed back toward the red in Photoshop. Stars from the RGB for star colors, plus the RGB image blended in slightly to get the faint nebulosity more red again.

Image produced from exposures taken at the Casitas de Gila guest houses in SW New Mexico.

Description: A more visually interesting crop of the central region of the nebula, along with some minor color tweaks and a repair to correct some residual amp glow.
